BTC to XMR No KYC: Best Methods Tested in 2026

Converting BTC to XMR is the most common privacy swap. I tested it on 5 platforms with the same 0.1 BTC each time.

BTC leaves a permanent trail on the blockchain. Every transaction, every amount, every address is visible to anyone. Monero fixes that. So the natural move is to swap your BTC for XMR. The question is: which platform gives you the most XMR for your bitcoin, and which one keeps your identity out of it?

I sent exactly 0.1 BTC (roughly $6,200 at the time) to 5 different exchanges and recorded what came back.

The Test Results

ExchangeXMR ReceivedEffective FeeTimeKYC Required?Success
SimpleSwap29.4 XMR1.0%15 minNo (under $6K)Yes
ChangeNOW29.5 XMR0.9%14 minNo (under $5K)Yes
Trocador (→ SimpleSwap)29.4 XMR1.0%16 minNoYes
FixedFloat29.0 XMR1.5%22 minNoYes
ExchangX28.7 XMR2.0%35 minNoYes

Every single one succeeded. No KYC was triggered on any platform for this amount. The difference between the best and worst was about 0.7 XMR (roughly $155).

Winner: ChangeNOW (Barely)

ChangeNOW gave me 29.5 XMR, beating SimpleSwap by 0.1 XMR. That's about $6 at current rates. Not a huge difference, but over time it adds up.

Here's exactly how I did the swap on ChangeNOW:

Step 1: Open ChangeNOW (no account needed)

Step 2: Select BTC in the "You send" field and XMR in the "You get" field

Step 3: Enter 0.1 BTC. The interface shows an estimated XMR amount (29.5 XMR in my case)

Step 4: Paste my Monero wallet address. I use Feather Wallet on desktop. I always double-check the address by verifying the first and last 4 characters.

Step 5: Click "Exchange" and copy the BTC deposit address

Step 6: Send 0.1 BTC from my Electrum wallet to the deposit address

Step 7: Wait. The transaction showed "Confirming" for about 3 minutes, then "Processing" for about 11 minutes.

Step 8: 14 minutes after sending, 29.5 XMR appeared in my Feather Wallet.

The whole process took about 18 minutes total (including the time to set up the swap).

Why SimpleSwap Is Still My Default

ChangeNOW won this test by 0.1 XMR. But SimpleSwap has two advantages that keep me coming back:

  1. Higher KYC threshold. SimpleSwap lets you swap up to about $6,000 without KYC. ChangeNOW triggers around $5,000. For smaller amounts it doesn't matter, but for larger swaps it's a real difference.

  2. More coins. SimpleSwap has 600+ coins. ChangeNOW has about 500. If you're ever swapping something besides BTC and XMR, SimpleSwap probably supports it.

  3. Loyalty program. After 100 swaps on SimpleSwap, you get 0.15% cashback at Platinum level. It takes a while to get there, but it's a nice bonus.

The fee difference between SimpleSwap (1.0%) and ChangeNOW (0.9%) is small enough that I'd rather have the higher KYC threshold and more coin options.

When to Use Trocador

Trocador is an aggregator. It doesn't do the swap. It shows you rates from 10+ exchanges and lets you pick the cheapest one.

I used Trocador for my test and it redirected me to SimpleSwap (which had the best rate at the time). This is normal. Trocador is useful when you want to make sure you're getting the best deal without manually checking 10 exchanges.

When I use Trocador:

  • Swaps over $1,000 (where a 0.5% fee difference matters)
  • Unusual coin pairs where the rate spread is larger
  • When I haven't swapped in a while and want to check current rates

When I skip Trocador:

  • Small swaps (under $500) where the rate difference is negligible
  • When I'm in a hurry (the extra click adds time)

Why BTC to XMR Matters

Bitcoin is pseudonymous, not anonymous. Every transaction is recorded on a public ledger. If anyone knows your BTC address, they can trace every transaction you've ever made with it. Exchanges, analytics companies, and governments use this to track people.

Monero is different. Every transaction amount is hidden. The sender and receiver are hidden. The transaction graph is obfuscated. When you swap BTC for XMR, you're essentially putting your money through a privacy filter that breaks the trail.

The standard privacy path is:

  1. Buy BTC on an exchange (KYC is fine here, you need to get the BTC somehow)
  2. Send BTC to your own wallet (not the exchange wallet)
  3. Swap BTC to XMR on a no-KYC platform
  4. Now your XMR is private

This is the most common use case for no-KYC exchanges. It's why BTC to XMR is the most popular swap pair on SimpleSwap.

Tips for Getting the Best Rate

Time your swap. BTC/XMR rates fluctuate. I've seen the rate swing by 1-2% over a single day. If you're not in a rush, check the rate a few times before swapping.

Use a VPN. I know I say this in every article, but it matters. The swap service sees your IP address. A VPN hides it. I use Mullvad ($5/month).

Check multiple platforms. Even if you usually use SimpleSwap, check ChangeNOW or Trocador before a large swap. The best platform changes day to day.

Don't send from an exchange wallet. If you send BTC from Coinbase or Binance to the swap, they know you're swapping. Send to your own wallet first (Electrum, Sparrow, etc.), then swap from there.

Keep swaps under $5K. This is the sweet spot for avoiding KYC. Most platforms will ask for verification above $5K. Some above $3K.

Verify the address. Monero addresses are long. I copy-paste and then manually check the first 4 and last 4 characters. This takes 10 seconds and prevents losing your funds.

Summary

For BTC to XMR without KYC in 2026, the best method is either SimpleSwap or ChangeNOW. They're neck and neck on fees (0.9-1.0%), both take about 15 minutes, and neither requires KYC for swaps under $5K. ChangeNOW had a slightly better rate in my test, but SimpleSwap has a higher KYC threshold and more coins.

If you want the absolute best rate without checking platforms yourself, use Trocador. If you're doing a large swap (over $5K), consider splitting it across two transactions on different platforms to stay under the KYC threshold.

The whole process is fast, cheap, and private. And it's getting easier every year.
