GhostSwap Review 2026: The Privacy-First Crypto Exchange

GhostSwap promises maximum anonymity. no accounts, no logs, no JavaScript required. sounds too good to be true? i tested it for 2 months. here's what happened.

TL;DR: GhostSwap is the most privacy-focused swap service i've tested. but that privacy comes at a cost — higher fees (1-2.5%), fewer coins (~50), and slower speeds. if you're a journalist, activist, or just privacy-obsessed, it's worth the trade-off. for everyday swaps, SimpleSwap or ChangeNOW are better choices.

What Is GhostSwap?

GhostSwap is a crypto swap service built from the ground up for privacy. no accounts. no email. no cookies. no JavaScript tracking. the interface works even with Tor Browser's highest security settings.

launched in 2024, it's the newest player in the no-KYC space. that means less track record, but also a more modern privacy architecture.

My 2-Month GhostSwap Experience

First Impressions

the interface is dead simple. select input coin, select output coin, paste your receiving address, send. no buttons to accept cookies, no "create account" prompts, no email verification. it just works.

i loaded Tor Browser and ran my first swap. BTC → XMR. the process was identical to using it on a normal browser — no degradation.

Swap #1: BTC → XMR

  • amount: 0.005 BTC (~$300 at the time)
  • time: 18 minutes
  • effective fee: 1.8%
  • result: XMR arrived in my wallet. clean.

Swap #2: ETH → XMR

  • amount: 0.1 ETH (~$250)
  • time: 22 minutes
  • effective fee: 2.1%
  • result: worked fine. slower than ChangeNOW.

Swap #3: LTC → BTC

  • amount: 2 LTC (~$180)
  • time: 15 minutes
  • effective fee: 1.4%
  • result: smooth. LTC swaps are faster everywhere.

Failed Swaps

out of 15 total swaps, 2 failed. one BTC → XMR swap timed out after 2 hours — my BTC was returned after 24 hours. another ETH swap got stuck and required support email.

that's a 13% failure rate. compared to ChangeNOW (0% failure in 40+ swaps) and SimpleSwap (~2% failure), GhostSwap is less reliable.

Privacy Features: Why GhostSwap Is Different

No JavaScript

the entire site works without JavaScript. this matters because:

  • no browser fingerprinting
  • no tracking pixels
  • no analytics scripts
  • works in Tor Browser's safest mode (JS disabled)

No IP Logging (Claims)

GhostSwap claims they don't log IP addresses. i can't verify this independently, but their infrastructure is designed for it:

  • hosted on privacy-focused infrastructure
  • no CDN that logs IPs (no Cloudflare)
  • onion address available for Tor users

No Cookies

the site sets zero cookies. your swap is tracked only by the unique address generated for that transaction. close the tab, and there's no trace on your device.

Privacy Score: 9/10

the highest i've given any swap service. only atomic swaps or DEX trades score higher.

GhostSwap Fees: The Privacy Tax

privacy costs money. GhostSwap's fees are the highest among no-KYC swap services:

Fee ComponentGhostSwapChangeNOWSimpleSwap
Service fee0% (in spread)0.5%~0.5%
Spread vs spot1.0-2.5%0.2-1.0%0.3-1.5%
Total effective1.0-2.5%0.7-1.5%0.8-2.0%

you're paying 0.5-1.5% extra for privacy. on a $1,000 swap, that's $5-15 more than ChangeNOW. whether that's worth it depends on your threat model.

My Average Fees

PairGhostSwapChangeNOWDifference
BTC → XMR1.8%1.2%+0.6%
ETH → XMR2.1%1.0%+1.1%
LTC → BTC1.4%0.9%+0.5%

GhostSwap is consistently 0.5-1.1% more expensive. the ETH→XMR pair is particularly expensive because of lower liquidity.

Speed: The Weak Spot

GhostSwap is slower than the competition:

PairGhostSwapChangeNOWSimpleSwap
BTC → XMR18 min8 min14 min
ETH → XMR22 min10 min16 min
LTC → BTC15 min7 min9 min

GhostSwap waits for more confirmations before processing. that's a privacy trade-off — more confirmations means less risk of chain analysis on unconfirmed transactions.

Supported Coins

this is GhostSwap's biggest weakness. ~50 coins vs 900+ on ChangeNOW.

Supported (Partial List)

  • Major: BTC, ETH, LTC, XMR, BCH, DASH
  • Privacy: XMR, ZEC, BEAM
  • Stablecoins: USDT, USDC (limited chains)
  • Others: DOGE, ADA, SOL, DOT, LINK

Not Supported

  • most DeFi tokens
  • L2 tokens (ARB, OP)
  • memecoins (SHIB, PEPE, etc.)
  • wrapped tokens (WBTC, renBTC)

if you need obscure pairs, use ChangeNOW. if you need major pairs with max privacy, GhostSwap works.

Who Should Use GhostSwap?

GhostSwap Is For:

  • journalists protecting sources
  • activists in restrictive countries
  • privacy maximalists who don't mind paying more
  • anyone using Tor as their primary browser
  • people swapping under $500 where fees don't matter much

GhostSwap Is NOT For:

  • regular traders — use SimpleSwap or ChangeNOW
  • large swaps — $5K+ with 2% fees is $100+
  • altcoin hunters — only ~50 coins
  • speed freaks — it's 2-3x slower

👉 For most people, SimpleSwap is the better choice — lower fees, more coins, faster. save GhostSwap for when privacy is non-negotiable.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is GhostSwap safe?

i had 2 failed swaps out of 15. both resulted in fund returns (one took 24 hours). the service works, but it's less battle-tested than ChangeNOW (8 years) or SimpleSwap (7 years). use it for smaller amounts.

Does GhostSwap really not log anything?

they claim no IP logging, no cookies, no accounts. i can verify the no-cookie and no-account claims. the IP logging claim requires trust — their infrastructure setup supports it, but there's no independent audit.

Why are GhostSwap fees higher?

privacy infrastructure costs more. no Cloudflare CDN means higher hosting costs. fewer users means less liquidity and wider spreads. you're paying a premium for the privacy architecture.

Can I use GhostSwap without Tor?

yes, it works fine in regular browsers. but if you're not using Tor, the privacy advantage over ChangeNOW or SimpleSwap shrinks significantly. the whole point of GhostSwap is Tor compatibility.

Is GhostSwap better than ChangeNOW for privacy?

yes, objectively. ChangeNOW logs IPs and uses JavaScript. GhostSwap does neither. but ChangeNOW has 900+ coins, 0% failure rate, and 30% lower fees. pick your trade-off.

What's the best privacy-focused swap for Monero?

GhostSwap if you want max privacy. ChangeNOW or SimpleSwap for the best rates. we cover all options in our best exchange for Monero guide.
