ChangeNOW Not Working? Common Issues And Fixes

i've used ChangeNOW for 30+ swaps since early 2026. it's my second go-to after SimpleSwap. here are the most common issues i've hit and how to fix each one.

1. "Amount Below Minimum" Error

what happens: you enter your amount, click exchange, and get "The minimum amount for this pair is X."

why: every pair has a minimum. ChangeNOW's minimums are often slightly higher than SimpleSwap's. for example, BTC to USDT minimum is around 0.0015 BTC (~$90) vs SimpleSwap's ~0.001 BTC.

how to fix it: add 15-20% above the listed minimum. if you're swapping $80 worth of BTC and the minimum is $90, you need to send at least $100 worth. the extra buffer covers price fluctuations between quote and deposit.

i hit this exact error trying to swap 0.0012 BTC. minimum was 0.0015. had to top up to 0.002 BTC to be safe.

2. Network Unavailable

what happens: "This network is currently unavailable" or the coin shows as greyed out in the dropdown.

why: ChangeNOW occasionally takes coins offline for maintenance, delisting, or network issues. newer coins and low-volume tokens are most affected. sometimes an entire blockchain goes down (Solana had outages in 2026 that affected ChangeNOW).

how to fix it: wait 1-2 hours and try again. check ChangeNOW's Twitter (@ChangeNOW_io) for announcements. if a coin is permanently delisted, you'll need to use an intermediate swap (e.g., X → BTC → Y instead of X → Y directly).

3. KYC Lock

what happens: your swap is "pending" but requires identity verification before it processes. you get an email or in-app prompt asking for documents.

why: ChangeNOW's KYC threshold is around $5,000 equivalent but it can trigger lower. common triggers: swapping from a flagged wallet address, large rapid consecutive swaps, or automated/bot-like behavior.

how to fix it:

• if you want to complete KYC: submit the requested documents. ChangeNOW usually processes within 1-2 hours. they accept passport, ID card, or driver's license.
• if you don't want KYC: cancel the swap (if possible) and wait 24 hours before trying again with a smaller amount. keep individual swaps under $4,500. use different deposit addresses if doing multiple swaps.

to avoid KYC entirely:

• keep swaps under $4,000 (well below the $5K threshold)
• don't do more than 2 swaps per day from the same IP
• don't swap from known exchange hot wallets (they get flagged)
• use fresh deposit addresses for each swap

4. Expired Quote

what happens: "Exchange rate has expired" or "Please refresh and try again."

why: ChangeNOW quotes are valid for about 20 minutes. same as SimpleSwap. crypto prices move fast and the rate can't be held forever.

how to fix it: get a fresh quote and send the deposit within 5 minutes. don't set up the swap, go make coffee, and come back. if you need more time, start the swap over with a new quote.

5. Slow Processing

what happens: swap shows "processing" for 30+ minutes. you sent the deposit, confirmations are showing on the blockchain, but ChangeNOW hasn't completed the swap.

why: ChangeNOW's processing time varies. during high traffic periods, their internal exchange engine can queue swaps. also, if you're swapping XMR, the confirmations are naturally slower.

normal processing times (my data from 30+ swaps):

• ETH to USDT: 3-8 minutes
• BTC to XMR: 10-25 minutes
• XMR to BTC: 15-40 minutes
• LTC to USDT: 5-15 minutes

when to worry: anything over 2 hours. at that point, contact support with your order ID.

6. "Transaction Not Found" After Sending

what happens: you sent the crypto to the deposit address, but ChangeNOW doesn't show any transaction. status stays on "waiting for deposit."

why: usually one of three things: you sent to the wrong address, you sent the wrong coin, or there's a blockchain delay. occasionally, ChangeNOW's system has a lag in detecting incoming transactions.

how to fix it:

1. verify the transaction hash on a block explorer. make sure it shows the correct amount and address.
2. check that you sent the right coin on the right network (e.g., USDT on TRC-20, not ERC-20).
3. wait 10-15 minutes. ChangeNOW sometimes has a detection delay.
4. if nothing after 30 minutes, contact support with your TXID.

7. Website/API Errors

what happens: "Something went wrong," the page won't load, or the API returns 500 errors.

why: ChangeNOW occasionally has server issues. their API can also rate-limit you if you're making too many requests (more relevant for developers using their API).

how to fix it:

• try a different browser or clear cache

• if using the API, reduce request frequency or add delays between calls
• wait 1-2 hours for server issues to resolve

• always keep your order ID. it starts with "now..." and is in the swap URL.
• screenshot the quote before sending the deposit.
• contact support at support@changenow.io for any issues.
• ChangeNOW's support is usually responsive within 2-6 hours.

ChangeNOW vs SimpleSwap Reliability

from my experience:

• SimpleSwap: 96% success rate (24/25 swaps), 14 minute average
• ChangeNOW: 93% success rate (28/30 swaps), 18 minute average

both are reliable. ChangeNOW has slightly more KYC triggers in my experience, but the swap selection is good and the fees are competitive.
