SimpleSwap Not Working? 7 Fixes That Actually Work

i've done 25+ swaps on SimpleSwap since march 2026. 24 succeeded, 1 failed. but along the way i hit every common error at least once. here are the 7 reasons SimpleSwap fails and exactly how to fix each one.

1. Wrong Receiving Address

what happens: you submit the swap, send crypto to the deposit address, then nothing. or you get "invalid address" before you even start.

why: you copied an address for the wrong network. for example, sending USDT (TRC-20) to an ERC-20 address, or BTC to a Taproot address when SimpleSwap expects SegWit.

how to fix it: double-check the network before pasting your receiving address. SimpleSwap shows the network next to the coin name. if you already sent to the wrong address, the funds are likely gone. this is the #1 reason for lost funds on any exchange.

i almost lost 500 USDT by pasting a TRC-20 address while the swap was set to ERC-20. caught it 10 seconds before sending.

2. Below Minimum Amount

what happens: "The amount is below the minimum" or the exchange rate field turns red. swap won't start.

why: every pair has a minimum. BTC to XMR is usually around 0.001 BTC (~$60). smaller amounts like 0.0005 BTC won't work.

how to fix it: check the minimum shown on the swap page before starting. if your amount is below, send a bit more. don't try to send exactly the minimum either. add 5-10% buffer for network fees.

3. Network Congestion

what happens: swap shows "pending" for 30+ minutes. you sent the deposit but nothing is processing.

why: your deposit transaction has a low fee and is stuck in the blockchain mempool. SimpleSwap waits for confirmations before processing. BTC with a low fee can take hours during peak times.

how to fix it: wait. seriously. most congested swaps resolve within 1-2 hours. if you're doing BTC, use SegWit (bc1) addresses and set a medium-to-high network fee from your wallet. if it's been 3+ hours, contact SimpleSwap support with your transaction ID.

4. Expired Quote

what happens: "This exchange rate has expired" or "Please refresh and try again." the swap won't start even though you clicked exchange.

why: SimpleSwap quotes are valid for about 20 minutes. if you wait too long between getting the quote and sending the deposit, the rate expires. crypto prices move fast, especially during volatile days.

how to fix it: get a fresh quote and send the deposit within 5 minutes. don't set up the swap, walk away, and come back. if you need time, start fresh.

i lost a quote once because i was waiting for a Trezor confirmation. took 12 minutes. by the time i sent, the rate had moved 2% and SimpleSwap rejected it.

5. Platform Maintenance

what happens: "The service is temporarily unavailable" or the swap page loads blank. sometimes you can't even reach the website.

why: SimpleSwap does scheduled maintenance, usually for 30-60 minutes. they sometimes announce it on Twitter but often just show an error.

how to fix it: check SimpleSwap's Twitter (@SimpleSwap_com) for announcements. if it's maintenance, just wait and try again in an hour. if the site is down but no announcement, it might be a DDoS or outage. check downforeveryoneorjustme.com.

6. Incompatible Token Pair

what happens: "This pair is not available" or the exchange option is greyed out. you can't select your coins.

why: not every token pair is supported. SimpleSwap has 600+ coins but some combinations don't exist. also, some tokens have been delisted or are temporarily unavailable for swaps.

how to fix it: try an intermediate swap. for example, if ETH → SMALL_TOKEN isn't available, do ETH → USDT → SMALL_TOKEN in two separate swaps. or check the SimpleSwap supported pairs page to see what's available.

7. KYC Trigger

what happens: instead of processing, you get a message asking for identity verification. or your swap is held until you submit documents.

why: SimpleSwap requires KYC for larger swaps. the threshold is around $6,000 equivalent but it can trigger lower if the system flags your swap. common triggers: swapping from a flagged address, unusually large amounts, or rapid consecutive swaps.

how to fix it: if you're under the limit and still got flagged, contact support. sometimes clearing cookies and using a different IP helps. to avoid KYC entirely, keep swaps under $5,000 and don't do more than 2-3 swaps per day from the same IP.

General Troubleshooting Tips

  • always check the SimpleSwap status page before blaming your setup
  • keep your transaction ID (TXID) handy for every swap
  • screenshot the quote and the deposit address before sending
  • contact support at support@simpleswap.io with your order ID for any stuck/failed swap

i've had 1 failure out of 25+ swaps. SimpleSwap is reliable, but these 7 issues cover 95% of problems people hit.
