SimpleSwap Stuck? Why Your Swap Is Pending And What To Do
the most common panic moment with SimpleSwap: you sent your crypto, the swap says "pending," and it's been 20 minutes. your heart rate goes up. is your money gone?
i've done 25+ swaps on SimpleSwap. i've been stuck waiting more times than i can count. here's what actually happens during each stage and when you should genuinely worry.
The 3 Stages of a SimpleSwap Swap
Stage 1: Waiting for Deposit
what it says: "Waiting for your deposit" or "Pending"
what it means: SimpleSwap generated a deposit address. you need to send your crypto to that address. the clock starts when they receive your deposit.
normal time: depends on how fast you send. if you're ready, 1-2 minutes.
if stuck here: you haven't sent the deposit yet. the swap is just sitting there waiting. this isn't a problem. either send the crypto or cancel the swap.
Stage 2: Processing (This Is Where People Panic)
what it says: "Processing" or "Your swap is being processed"
what it means: SimpleSwap received your deposit. now they're doing the actual exchange: receiving your coins, converting them on their end, and preparing to send the output.
normal time breakdown:
- BTC to XMR: 5-20 minutes (depends on BTC confirmations)
- ETH to USDT: 3-10 minutes
- XMR to BTC: 10-30 minutes (XMR confirmations are slower)
- LTC to XMR: 5-15 minutes
if stuck here: don't panic. "Processing" for 30 minutes is still normal. for 1 hour, it's unusual but not alarming. for 2+ hours, something might be wrong.
Stage 3: Completed
what it says: "Completed" or "Your swap is done"
what it means: SimpleSwap sent the output coins to your receiving address. check your wallet.
normal time: after processing, the actual send takes 1-5 minutes depending on the network.
Real Timeline Examples
here are actual timelines from my 25+ swaps:
fast swap (best case):
- ETH → USDT: 3 minutes total
- Deposit confirmed in 1 block, processing took 2 minutes, send took 30 seconds
normal swap:
- BTC → XMR: 15 minutes total
- 10 minutes waiting for BTC confirmation, 3 minutes processing, 2 minutes to send
slow swap:
- BTC → USDT: 45 minutes total
- BTC network was congested, took 25 minutes for confirmation, then 15 minutes processing
my one stuck swap:
- BTC → XMR: 2 hours total
- BTC confirmation took 40 minutes (low fee), processing took 1 hour 10 minutes, send was instant
- i almost contacted support but it resolved on its own
When "Stuck" Is Normal
you should NOT panic if:
- it's been less than 1 hour and the swap says "processing"
- the BTC network is congested (check mempool.space for real-time data)
- you're swapping XMR (Monero confirmations are slower by design)
- it's a weekend or holiday (support response times are slower too)
When Something Might Be Wrong
you SHOULD worry if:
- it's been 2+ hours with no status change
- the status went from "processing" back to "pending" (this is rare)
- you see "failed" or "error" (see my SimpleSwap Failed guide)
- the deposit address changed after you already sent (this should never happen)
What To Do If Your Swap Is Stuck
- wait 30 more minutes if it's under 1 hour. most resolves happen here.
- check the blockchain using your TXID on a block explorer. search your transaction hash to see confirmations.
- check SimpleSwap status at their website. look for any maintenance banners.
- contact support if it's been 2+ hours. email support@simpleswap.io with your order ID (found in the swap URL, starts with "smp...").
- do NOT send another swap with the same funds. if the first one actually went through, you'll lose money on the second.
How To Avoid Stuck Swaps
- use SegWit (bc1) addresses for BTC. faster confirmations, lower fees.
- set a medium-to-high network fee in your wallet. cheap fees = slow confirmations.
- avoid swapping during major market crashes when networks are congested.
- send the deposit within 5 minutes of getting the quote.
my average SimpleSwap time is 14 minutes. 90% of swaps finish under 30 minutes. the other 10% just need patience.
